Import testers from Fabric Beta

Firebase App Distribution lets you easily manage and distribute your pre-release builds so you can get feedback quickly from your trusted testers. App Distribution also integrates with Firebase Crashlytics to show you stability metrics for your builds in the Firebase Crashlytics dashboard.

This guide describes how to use Firebase App Distribution with your newly migrated app and import your testers over from Fabric Beta. You can also review answers to our most frequently asked questions.

Before you get started, keep the following in mind:

  • If you don't want to migrate your app, you can still import your testers directly to a new Firebase project. Simply add your iOS or Android app to Firebase, then continue step 1 and step 2 to import your testers.
  • You do not need to make any SDK changes to your migrated app to start using App Distribution.
  • You can’t import your historical distributions from Fabric to App Distribution, but you can still view them on your Fabric dashboard until it shuts down on March 31, 2020.
  • With App Distribution, you can add a maximum of 500 testers per Firebase project and distribute to a maximum of 200 testers for each build distribution.

Before you begin

You must have a Firebase project in order to start using App Distribution. If you haven't already, first migrate your app from Fabric Beta to Firebase.

Step 1: Export testers from the Fabric dashboard

  1. On the Fabric dashboard, click Beta from the left-hand panel.

  2. Click Export Testers.

This downloads a testers.csv file that contains your testers' names and email addresses.

Step 2: Import testers to Firebase

  1. In the App Distribution page of the Firebase console, select the app to which you want to import your testers.
  2. Click Get started, then click the Testers & Groups tab.
  3. In the top-right corner of the Testers window, click more_vert> Import testers to project.
  4. Select the testers.csv file you downloaded from step 1, then click Import.

Step 3 (optional): Add testers to a group

After importing your testers to Firebase, you can also them to an App Distribution group so you can distribute your build to a handful of testers at once:

  1. In the App Distribution page of the Firebase console, select the app to which you want to import your testers.
  2. Click Get started, then click the Testers & Groups tab.
  3. In the top-left corner of the Testers window, click group_add Add group. Enter a group name, then click Save.
  4. Under the new group, click group_add Add testers, then enter your testers' email addresses.
