Integration testing (end-to-end or GUI testing) attempts to simulate a user interacting with your app by doing things like pushing buttons, selecting items, and typing on the keyboard to avoid having humans do that kind of repetitive work. A device farm like Firebase Test Lab allows you to run tests across various devices and device configurations simultaneously to check whether the app works or performs well. In this talk, you'll learn how to write an efficient Flutter integration test, run it on Firebase test lab for Android and iOS, and learn tips and tricks to manage your code and tests. Leverage performance results in your CD/CI and deployment pipeline.

Creating a video game can be quite a complex task; more than developing the game's logic, you might want to give your players the ability to synchronize their high score across multiple devices, check their friend's scores and maybe even get some cool seasonal bonuses/power-ups. In this 20 min talk, Rosário shows game developers how to: - use Firebase Auth to authenticate the players of their game - use Cloud Firestore to store the players' high scores - use Remote Config to control the game's difficulty and offer seasonal bonuses (like when the main character gets that cool Santa Claus hat on Xmas 😉)

Global Goals is a project by the United Nations designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. Samsung launched its partnership with the UN creating an Android app that currently has millions of users. At Samsung Internet, we believe in the power of the web and we've decided to bring the app to this platform so we can make it available for everybody. As a first prototype we needed to accelerate our app development, therefore we've decided to use Firebase to optimize resources. During this talk, you will learn how we've build a Progressive Web App using Server Side Rendering with Firebase taking advantage of its web features like hosting, cloud functions and even analytics to build and ship a web app like a pro!

Next.js allows you to build with three different rendering styles: client (CSR), server (SSR), and static (SSG). In this talk I will demonstrate how Firebase's powerful JavaScript client and server SDKs allow you to use all three. Building static first pages that hydrate to include realtime updates.

When securing a database there are two main things you need - authentication (knowing who is trying to access the database) and authorization (knowing they have the necessary permissions). Firebase provides support for both, but it's not immediately obvious how to implement robust authorization using the available tools. This talk will introduce two standard authorization models, ACL (Access Control List) and RBAC (Role-Based Access Control), and show how to implement these in both Realtime Database and Firestore. You'll learn how to enforce and manage authorization using database rules and cloud functions

Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) has been always connected with "showing notifications." But, FCM has way more to offer than that. In our Superlist application (written with Flutter), we use FCM on several aspects for mobile and desktop and it really improved the way we communicate during data synchronization. In this session, I will be talking about what FCM is, how we can use them to improve your data traffic and have actual real-time updates in your application and lastly, introduce you to a new FCM world that you have not seen before with a real-life example.

Most of the business applications need some reporting and analytics capabilities on the data stored in their database. While Firestore, as a NoSQL database, has a lot of advantages, when it's time to do some aggregate calculations it can rapidly become cumbersome because you need to maintain counters for all the dimensions you want to aggregate and for all values in those dimensions. A much more flexible solution is to use the "Export Collections to BigQuery" extension and use a reporting tool to analyze the data in BigQuery. In this talk we will show how to configure the extension to export Firestore data to BigQuery, then how to execute aggregation queries on the BigQuery data and, finally, how to create Data Studio reports to visualize and analyze our Firestore data in a user-friendly way.
