In Cloud Firestore, puoi aggiornare un singolo documento solo una volta al secondo, il che potrebbe essere troppo basso per alcune applicazioni ad alto traffico.

Soluzione: contatori distribuiti

Per supportare aggiornamenti dei contatori più frequenti, creare un contatore distribuito. Ogni contatore è un documento con una sottoraccolta di "shard" e il valore del contatore è la somma del valore degli shard.

Il throughput di scrittura aumenta linearmente con il numero di shard, quindi un contatore distribuito con 10 shard può gestire 10 volte più scritture di un contatore tradizionale.

Limitazioni

La soluzione mostrata sopra è un modo scalabile per creare contatori condivisi in Cloud Firestore, ma dovresti essere consapevole delle seguenti limitazioni:

  • Conteggio frammenti: il numero di frammenti controlla le prestazioni del contatore distribuito. Con troppo pochi shard, alcune transazioni potrebbero dover riprovare prima di riuscire, il che rallenterà le scritture. Con troppi frammenti, le letture diventano più lente e più costose. È possibile compensare la spesa di lettura mantenendo il totale del contatore in un documento di roll-up separato che viene aggiornato a una cadenza più lenta (ad esempio una volta al secondo) e facendo leggere ai clienti da quel documento per ottenere il totale. Il compromesso è che i clienti dovranno attendere l'aggiornamento del documento di roll-up, invece di calcolare il totale leggendo tutti gli shard immediatamente dopo qualsiasi aggiornamento.
  • Costo : il costo della lettura di un valore contatore aumenta linearmente con il numero di shard, poiché è necessario caricare l'intera sottoraccolta di shard.
